Sundays are rapidly becoming my favorite day of the week. About a month ago, Luis and I decided that Sundays we would turn off the TV, limit computer and video game time, and just have “family day.” We go to church, clean, do laundry, read, cook, bake, have a little family outing, sit and listen to Pandora, it really doesn’t matter what we do, we just relax. It is so rejuvenating, we can decompress after a long week, and get ready for another. With so much “stuff” to do during the week, we forget to just stop. God wants us to just stop, he wants us to give him room to speak to us. Sabbath to Luis and I doesn’t necessarily mean not doing anything, but we do things that bring us joy and relaxation. For me, that’s cleaning my house and preparing meals, while I am doing those things is when I hear God the most, because my mind is still and open, and my heart is open. That is what God wants us to do on our Sabbath. I want to teach my daughter the importance of The Sabbath, family, relaxation, and just being able to sit still.
Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and wall the host of them. And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.-Genesis 2:1-3
If God found it important enough to do, we should too.
